The history of Agua del Teleno begins at the foothills of León’s highest mountain. Since day one, the goal has been clear: to offer pure, natural and accessible water while staying true to our essence.
The mythical Mount Teleno, a place of enigmatic mysteries, a sacred mountain for the Asturian tribes, abode of the gods and of indecipherable symbolism throughout the centuries, holds within its 2,188-meter height a priceless treasure: water.
The water resources of this mountain were already exploited by the Romans, who gave it the recognition of a god by dedicating it to Mars Tilenus. It was used to collect water from its peaks and transport it through a hydraulic network of canals, part of which are visible today, to the gold mines of Las Médulas, more than 30 km away, in one of the most impressive mining complexes of antiquity.
The benefits of this mineral water were known to the residents of the Valduerna region, who came here as if it were a pilgrimage site, carrying containers to collect its mineral water.
It was around the 1980s that the exceptional chemical composition of our water, with a very low dry residue, was confirmed, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that it was declared a mineral water.
The architect of this recognition of its qualities was Don Esteban Luengo, one of the members of the family that owned the land where this spring has flowed naturally for centuries. For years and years, Esteban pursued his dream of demonstrating the excellent quality of this spring’s water with determination and tenacity until he realized it.
Using the original name Luengo, in honor of its original promoter, before being marketed, it was called Teleno, a reference to its origin.
Driven by the desire to continue Esteban’s dream, a new project has emerged whose purpose is to share this blue gold and make known the true taste of water. Here begins the true agua del teleno history
The Agua del Teleno bottling plant is inaugurated in Palacios de la Valduerna. After a significant investment in R&D, technology, and innovation, the bottling and marketing of this water is a reality.
At the same time, Agua del Teleno opens to the market, becoming known as one of the few waters with Very Weak Mineralization.
At Agua del Teleno, we care about our environment. We are aware that we are packaging a gift from Nature, which is why we also want to work for it.
Our practices are designed with a focus on sustainable development. We use all our resources rationally and promote a production model with an eye to the future.
Agua del Teleno has been certified as 100% renewable by the CNMC (Renewable Origin Guarantees 2020). Our packaging is 100% recyclable and 50% recycled.
